Benny Cortez – Lead Singer/Harmonica
Benny started playing harmonica back in 1971, he listened to the greats such as Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Paul Butterfield and Mark Ford. he fell in love with the instrument and its place in the blues. Through the years, he was also influenced by R&B, Soul, Funk, and Rock music and artists too numerous to mention. Being raised in such a diverse musical garden, Benny developed his own style of music delivery and stage presence with a fire and passion that has been tried and true to this day, mesmerizing audiences and critics all over!
Steve Artea – Guitar/ Voc
Steve started playing at age 11, over the years his Influences have been:
Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Peter Green, Gary Moore, ZZ Top, Freddie, Albert, and B.B. King, Albert Collins, Johnny Winter, Free, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Deep Purple, and so many other great artists.
He has Performed in Shows With: Ambrosia, Coco Montoya, Darrell Mansfield, Dave Mason, Deacon Jones, Eddie Money, Eric Gales, Eric Sardinas, Johnny Winter, Leon Russell, Little Richard, Mitch Ryder, Michael Landau, Robben Ford, Rod Piazza, Savoy Brown, Sons of Champlin, Stryper, and Terri Nunn / Berlin. Steve brings a strong Blues, Rock n Roll, Funky Soul groove to the band. With his upfront stage presence, vocals, and connection with the audience he fits in with Benny’s musical style and stage performance. He’s played with many local bands in SoCal. since the 60’s and has been waiting for this band all his life!
Eric Tice – Drummer
Eric is one of the Premier Drummers in SoCal who has played and toured throughout the country with many artists. He is part of the backbone in this band as well as one of the Sons of Thunder Rhythm Section.
Ray Charles Aguilar – Bass Guitar
Ray is another premier player from SoCal and has also played many venues and tours, with years of session work and gigging, he is a very sought after bassist and is another important part of the backbone in the band. He is the other half of the Son of Thunder Rhythm Section.
Mike Rincon – Keyboards
Mike brings in a sound right out of a Baptist Church Choir, he has been playing with many great local and touring artists over his years of experience and brings a rich swell of beautiful Hammond B – 3 Leslie goodness.
Danny Daniel Modesto Diaz – Featured Guest Guitarist
Daniel M. Diaz was born in East Los Angeles. He attended Belvedere Elementary and Junior High School. He started playing guitar at age 14 meshed with other musicians as he moved on to High School. His inspiration for playing at that time was a personal friend of his named Sammy “Hearth” Martinez. “Hearth was a phenomenal guitarist who got signed by Warner Bros. Diaz blues influence came from a Harmonica player named Shakey Jake from Chicago who played with John Mayall. Jake became a friend of Diaz and went on to introduce him to Paul Butterfield. Diaz claims that was the defining moment when he fell in love with blues licks.
Diaz early gigs were playing in a band called The General Store, their gigs were for fraternity parties, the group was picked by the Podler brothers of American Entertainment and began booking them to open for The Grateful Dead, Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf and the Real Moby Grape. Diaz later took a job as a guitar and drum teacher at Johnny Thompsons Music in Monterey Park, which still exists today. He taught there for approximately 10 years teaching theory, jazz, rock and blues techniques. He quickly became one of the most sought after teachers at that time. many of his students became career musicians with tons of credits and accomplishments like Mike Albert (Megadeth, El Chicano) Carlos De LaPaz (Film/TV credits) Jimmy Espinoza (Thee Midnighters) Bobby Robles (Thee Midnighters/Ginger Baker Jr. Trio) Manny Valdez (Los Illegals), Ronny Reyes (Yaki), Ruben Guaderrama (The Blazers), Joey Delgado (2016 International Blues Winner) He went back to gigging with all the locals as hired gun, he had long engagements with local legends CHICO, Jimi Espinosa, Harlan Spector, Edward James Olmos, Bobby Fernandez, Bobby Z, Jumping Jack Benny Band, and many, many more. In 2016 Diaz began to release his first album of original music featuring many friends, students and peers who he has had the pleasure associating with in the last 50 years of his career. Diaz and his Producer, Industry Veteran Joanne Ledesma hope to finish the album by year end and welcome in the New Year with a record release party and some additional performances.
